First Holy Communion & Reconciliation
Children normally start preparing for their first Holy Communion when they are in Year 3 or older. Each year we run a parish based programme of preparation with children and parents/carers working together. Our team of catechists are there to welcome you, support you and answer any questions that arise. The programme usually starts at the end of September. We meet in the parish hall for each session and then go in to Sunday Mass together.
Parents of children attending St Anne’s Primary School will all receive an invitation to enroll themselves and their children in the programme at the start of Year 3. Parents of children attending other schools should contact the parish office for details of dates and times. Reminders appear on the weekly newsletter and the website in the weeks before the preparation starts.
Reconciliation (1st Confession) is celebrated in Advent (November/December). This is always a simple but joyful occasion. The children receive Holy Communion for the first time at a parish Mass of choice during May and June. We round off the programme with a parish celebration for all the children and families, together with parishioners, at Sunday Mass, followed by a party in the hall.
