Confirmation

The young people of our parish celebrate their Confirmation when they are in Year 8 or older. Confirmation is a wonderful Sacrament. Young people renew the promises that were often made for them by parents and godparents when they were baptised. The gifts of the Holy Spirit that they received in Baptism are confirmed by the Bishop through the laying on of hands and anointing with the holy oil of Chrism.

Each year we run a programme of preparation for candidates for Confirmation. During the preparation time, candidates reflect on the gifts of the Holy Spirit which they will receive when they are confirmed, the faith which they will profess and the commitment they will make to the Church. We also try to have some fun!

We celebrate the Sacrament together with the other parishes of St Chad’s Deanery. In June/July the Sacrament of Confirmation is celebrated in two or three churches around the deanery by Bishop John.

Notices appear in the newsletter and on the website each year (usually around December) inviting young people and their parents to enroll for our programme of preparation. Those wishing to be confirmed should contact the parish office.
